Fuel Cost Calculator
Budget road trips or daily commutes by combining route distance, vehicle efficiency, fuel price, and trip count—plus a quick carbon footprint estimate.
Plan a drive by combining distance, vehicle efficiency, and gas prices—includes a quick CO2 estimate.
Trip cost math
Gallons = Distance ÷ MPG Cost = Gallons × Fuel price CO₂ ≈ Gallons × 8.887 kg
Distance is multiplied by trip count, divided by fuel efficiency, then multiplied by the price per gallon. Emissions use the EPA factor of 8.887 kg CO₂ per gallon of gasoline.
How to use
- Enter the one-way distance of your drive.
- Provide your vehicle’s fuel efficiency and the current fuel price.
- Set how many times you’ll make the trip, then review gallons needed, total cost, cost per mile, and CO₂ output.
Example
Input: Distance = 350 miles, Efficiency = 28 mpg, Price = $3.85/gal, Trips = 1
Output: Fuel ≈ 12.5 gallons, Trip cost ≈ $48, Cost/mi ≈ $0.14, CO₂ ≈ 111 kg
FAQ & notes
How do I model a round trip?
Either double the distance or set Trips = 2 so the calculator multiplies miles, fuel, and cost accordingly.
Can I work in kilometers and liters?
Yes—convert your numbers first (or switch MPG to km/L by converting) and the calculator will still output fuel and cost totals.
