Cylinder Volume & Area

Feed a radius and height to get volume, lateral area, and total surface instantly.

Volume
502.65 (unit³)
Lateral surface
251.33 (unit²)
Total surface
351.86 (unit²)

Cylinder formulas

Volume = πr²h
Lateral area = 2πrh
Total surface = 2πr(r + h)

Radius (r) and height (h) must share the same unit. Total surface area adds the top and base circles to the curved surface.

How to use

  1. Enter cylinder radius in your preferred unit.
  2. Enter the height using the same unit for both inputs.
  3. Adjust decimal precision if needed and read volume plus surface area outputs instantly.

Example

Input: Radius = 4 cm, Height = 10 cm

Output: Volume ≈ 502.65 cm³, Lateral ≈ 251.33 cm², Total surface ≈ 351.86 cm²

FAQ & notes

Why do the units switch between squared and cubed?

Volume uses cubic units because it measures space, while the surface results are squared since they represent area.

What if I only need lateral area?

Use the lateral value directly; the calculator breaks it out separately from the total surface figure.
